Description
Colorless crystals with a strong characteristic odor.
It is the chief constituent of peppermint oil.
Uses
Menthol is a mild anesthetic and anti-irritant.
It causes a cool sensation on the skin, by activating the
peripheral cold receptors.
It is used in sore throat remedies, in cigarettes, and in
creams for sore muscles. It is used in cough drops, after
shave lotions, inhalers, and cooling gels.
It is used as a flavoring in toothpastes, chewing gums,
candies, and liquors.
It is used as a perfume in towels, handkerchiefs, deodorizers, and
shampoos.
